about

I wrote this song during winter break of freshman year - I remember typing out a (bad) first draft of the lyrics in a hotel room in Taos, NM during our family vacation. This is the only real Rain and Farewell pop song, the only one with no power chords, and the only one that clocks in under four minutes. DJ is to be commended, as always, for saving my lyrics from being shit and for his excellent Peter Hook imitation. Oh, and I no longer share the concluding sentiment of this song.

lyrics

The space between the scenery
Is getting stale from the cold
I wished away the more mundane
For fear of getting old
I could never waste a chance
For saving myself face
But now the thought of past mistakes
Leaves behind this better taste

Driving til my feet are numb
Without any kind of map
Lost and taking chances
Wondering whether we go back
If every single drop of honey
Is just a taste of thoughtless waste
I'm guessing there's no chance
For any kind of grace

It's not as if I wouldn't want
The grace of everything you are
But I wasted all my chances
Wondering if I could go too far
And even if things got all fucked up
And everything would wash away
I'd take any kind of problem
Over the static and the boredom
