about

This was something DJ brought to the table around the same time as Throw A Rope, possibly a couple months earlier in which case it would be the oldest song on this album. Unlike that song, however, this one has changed a lot: the quiet ending and the major key intro all showed up after the fact. The verse guitar melody used to be the bass line, and the whole thing sounded like Tool, because in 2007 that was just about all we listened to. Nonetheless, we're very proud of how this one turned out.

lyrics

Everything moves all around us
But we're stuck here in time
Trying to escape the senseless mess
Breaking the cycle one more time
I'm waiting for it all to come back
I've got you on my mind
And the clarity to see through this
I just can't seem to find
You cannot give up what you want
And I cannot give up what I've got
When letting go is giving up
And no one knows just when to stop

I've tried so hard to build this
And I've tried to play my hand
To make this something more than
Just these castles in the sand
In times like these we push and pull
We try to give and take
But when I let go it's all forgotten
In something else's wake
A battle lost is not a scar
And should not last for years
But all of your bravado
Is just a facade for your fears
The place that you are going's not
The place I'm trying to find
When you can't shake the sense
That you're eternally maligned
